TT gears grind

TT gears grind
I have a 2001 Audi TT. Frequently when I shift from 1st to 2nd the gears grind. The dealer says he can't duplicate the problem. However, I've noticed dozens of people on this site who have the same problem. Any idea how I can get Audi to fix this problem?

You have a FWD or quattro?
The vast majority on this site that claim to have the problem have early build 2000 FWD TT's. Not all 2000 FWD TT's experience the problem though.
If you have a 2001 quattro then you are in totally different group from that group. Also, if Audi can't duplicate then they won't do anything. The only thing you can do is document that you brought the issue up (which you have done since it is on your service record). Then if you do have tranny problems later you can show that it was a pre-existing issue.

Depends..
In my case, its mostly bad when the car is cold/warming up. If i shift easy its just a little notchy and can feel it going into gear. But when I try to shift decently quick its either rough to get into gear or grinds. Its not bad now but I know once i get a chip its goin downhill. BTW ive driven MANY vws with the same tranny and other cable tranny cars..

Sounds similar to mine and why I try not to shift aggressively......
VW's I've owned (77 Scirroco, 87 Vanagon Synchro) were tricky when cold and just take some care. My '97 Escort Wagon w/ Mazda tranny was very slick shifting by comparison but when cold still was balky as most are when cold.
