Yes, the ballast seems to be intended to shift a body resonance frequency — presumably to avoid strong resonance.

The rod connects the tops of the McPherson struts and only serves to reinforce the body when the front suspension is subjected to abnormal loads, like bottoming out. Shouldn't influence handling at all, but may prevent permanent damage to body in rough situations.

Just look for it — steel tube across the rear top of engine compartment, round or oval section, a bit less than 1" diameter(?), straight except for slight bend on one end to get around some component (all this from memory).

Wrong.

Pedal placement was the issue with Audis and with some other manufacturers. Audi finally corrected the design flaw. If this was a non-issue and liability not a concern, Audi would not have changed it
