TT Reliable?
Thinking about getting one in the next year or so....but from what I've read a TT has more headaches than a B5 A4...true?

haha I didn't mean anything bad...
I really love the MK1 TT's styling and power (especially if MK2 only has DSG)....I just want to know if it's going to be somewhat reliable like an A4...or is it just one big fun headache like an S4 whose turbos blow monthly. =)

not nearly as bad as S4 in terms of reliability. Not all TTs are equal in terms of reliability
either. Some have had minimal problems, some had more then they expected. I would say its at least as reliable as 1.8T A4.

you treat it well, it'll be fine; you abuse it and and don't maintain it >
you'll have problems; the overall build quality is good, but there are members here that have had more than their share of problems. Most seem to have had less - particularly so, considering all the modding done.

Do not buy this car for its reliability (or lack thereof).
I think I might be an extreme case, but I've been utterly disappointed in the quality of my car, so much that it is turned me away from the brand. (Well that, and the consistent idiocy of the dealers.) If you want reliable, buy a Toyota.

I have faith in Audi
My dad has a 17 year old Audi 100 still going strong...and my A4 (for the most part) has been fairly reliable. What was the last year TT was made? 2006?

my experience is if you treat it as a mode of transportation, you won't like it...
If you treat it as a rolling piece of art, you'll do whatever it takes to keep it because it will capture you in all sorts of ways.
First and foremost, unlike the B5 1.8T's, get the timing belt and water pump updated before 60K miles. Once you go through replacing a faulty MAF, ignition coils, faulty gauges and ESP sensors, the rest is should be a balance of pure driving pleasure and occasional quirks that much of this forum already has an answer for.
One thing I like with the TT (even before I modded it) is it is much more fun zipping around traffic because of it's size and nimbleness. Even though the roadster we have is heavier than our A4, it doesn't feel like it.
It also has a look that can blend in with cars of higher stature, so you'll almost not be out of place when hanging out with millionaires or plane jane car nuts
