That makes sense on your description... try the valve and see what it does... also do the smoke test and see if you have any leaks. Would make sense as it gets warm things expand and it could be sealing up a small leak somewhere.

I don't have to cut springs on those forge valves do I to fine tune it? I'll order it if I just can install and go. I might not get it in time though to be a weekend warrior

Great! Thanks Steve. I appreciate the insight and guidance. I feel more comfortable now on my car purchase (I may have prematurely replaced the turbo for no reason, but oh well it happens).

Unfortunately I'm a commuter, so I get home too late to try this during the week day and it will have to wait for the weekend. In the meantime I'll order a Forge valve. I wonder what color spring I'm supposed to use?

So it will come with the lighter spring installed and directions on which one does what.... and he happy to help you feel better about it.. I am new to Audi but not to turbo cars as I have been building and tuning SAAB's for 14 years so turbos are turbos. Never hurts to have a new turbo on either.

I just got rid of my SAAB to the junk yard and I totally regret it! It was running, and I tried giving it away..but I had no takers.

Thats too bad... I would have taken it if I was close... I used to run ECUPROJECT.com and helped write all the open source tuning software for T5 , T7 and T8 Saab's. But its time to move on to a new platform. What did you have SAAB wise
