Default Turbo lag..

I guess that is the term.. I am talking about the time from when I step on the pedal until the turbo kicks in and I go ZOOOOOM.

How can I lessen this time? I have heard that a new DV might help. Anything else?

Default Be in a lower gear, at higher rpms. About your airbag stickers... (more)

...are they OEM or aftermarket? Can you feel the difference?

Default Haha..

Well, I removed those MONSTER stickers from OEM.. they are probably about 5% of the car's entire weight.. so I shoot off the line now like no ones business.. incrediable.

Ah... they were removed for lightening purposes! Well, that's a cost-efficient mod.

A Bailey or a Forge DV will make it feel smoother.

Default Re: Turbo lag..

DV won't do much for lag... though will likely smooth things out as Ellen said. Get a good one anyway.. the OEM valve stinks.

Lag happens because of the time it takes for the turbo to spin up to speed... turbo is driven by engine exhaust, so naturally, the more exhaust that goes through the Turbo, the faster it spins. Until the engine hits ~2200 rps, there isn't much boost, and around 3000 rpms, you really notice the power come on. From a stop, you can rev the car up before letting out the clutch if you want to take off in a hurry... but its not the greatest for the clutch.

Replacing exhaust components from the turbo all the way back with pipes that flow better may help reduce lag... I'm doing this, and will report on my experiences. A large front mounted intercooler (FMIC) has been reported to help lag between shifts... not sure about overall improvements in lag though, like from low rpm rolling starts. Some chips may also help lag... but I have no experience with this, perhaps someone else can comment.
