Default Robert, having done this, I disagree, and offer this for consideration >

From APR's site, for 180 hp chip,93 octane:
2000-05 TT 180HP 1.8T 209hp/245lb-ft

From APR's site, for K04-001 'kit':
"With no other mods than an APR Turbo-Back Exhaust, the kit made ...245hp/275lb-ft on 93 octane gas. Although the exhaust is not required, it is highly recommended."

It seems to me that 35 or so hp *is* actually 'worth it'; one of the less expensive $/hp mods, in fact - but yes, you *can* pay more and get more.

Default That's true if you have the K03. The 'sport' has the K04-001 exhaust...>>

side. After researching this on Vortex and other sites and talking with several people that have done the upgrade, going from the K03 sport to the K04-001 only increases the power by 10 hp.

Going from the K03 to the K04-001 results in the HP increase you mentioned.

Default zzzzz. 180 hp = 180 hp. Since APR stands to sell more 'chips' than 'kits' >

it's reasonable to presume they would be claiming greater than the "209" they do, if that were in fact the case, for the 'sport'. Also, one might presume Audi, too, would be claiming greater than 180hp with the 'sport' version of the K03, and they never have to my knowledge. I did a reasonable amount of research myself, and since I - as I say - actually have experience with it, and find the difference quite noticable - something on par with the claims - I don't understand the dismissiveness.

And I guess someone ought to tell APR, AWE, and Neuspeed, since they all make similar claims.

Cheers back.

Default Again, what you say is true. However, a couple VW people...>>

that have that have the K03 sport have dyno'd to around 235 BHP with slight mods to their cars.

The biggest difference to the 2 turbos is in the upper RPM range. The K03 starts to loose power around 4500 while the 'sport' is around 5800.

My recommendation is to upgrade to the K004-001 and put the upgrade program from APR, GIAC, or REVO.

Default ? >

c'mon - we both know if you're starting with a chip at say 210, it takes more than 'slight mods' to get to 235.
That being said, I'm going to dyno again sometime soon, so we'll see what's what then.

Default I would be interested in the results...>>

One of the VWs, a Mk4 golf (20th anniversary edition) had an 2.5" after market exhaust, 4bar FPU, FMIC, 3" down pipe, colder plugs, and usual Samco hoses.

Beside, the K-3 sport is a stop gap and Audi should stop putting them in their cars. The K04-001 is better all around...:-)

Default waiting for a nice 60 - 65 deg Saturday morning - won't be too long >

I did a dyno pre-chip with BMC cai, samco intake hose, DV, 2.5" dp & milltek exhaust, and got nothing like that, but did get some 15 or so delta hp at high rpm's (K03 sport, no fmic - but wouldn't get any hp from that anyway, and pre-****/4bar). This run will be the K04 with software, KMD pulley, EH intake and P&P exhaust mani's, boost machine, ****/4 bar, & denso's (plus the evoheatshield and fmic). I'll be thrilled to be in the 240-250 whp range.
Remember, I have FWD, thus my hp/weight ratio is different than quattro, so that's decent.

Default Got cha. I know that I've run with a few chipped 180 TTs with the K03 sport and...>>

can keep up until the K03 starts to loose power.

I think the K03 sport or K04-001 will recover most of that.

I'm not looking for 300+ HP as I use my car for mountain roads and such where HP isn't as importaint as handling.

Think 'Da Dragon'.

Good luck.
