Turbo shut off

Turbo shut off
This has probably been discussed many times, but I'm still new here. Anyway: Audi mechanic mentioned that so save the turbo and the engine, the motor should idle for a full minute before each shutoff. He didn't say why. Don't mind letting the thing run for a few seconds, but for a minute seems to be quite a nuisance. Would appreciate any opinion on this.

only necessary after 'hard or extended driving', according to the manual...
...it just allows engine oil to circulate while the turbo cools down, which is better for the turbo's longevity.

Re: Turbo shut off
I agree- it's a tremendous nuisance. For instance, when I stop for gas, I sit there at the self-serve pump while the car idles. More than once an attendant came out to tell me I was at the self-serve pump, thinking I was waiting for service. The feedback I've received regarding letting the engine idle before shutdown is that it should definitely be done.
I recall reading, several years ago, a comment by someone at Volvo regarding turbos. He said they were "consumable parts." (sic)
I'll let my 225QR idle.
