Default Question for BOV fans, is it just a sound thing?

Everything I read and everyone says to stay away from a BOV and that our engines were made to run with a DV instead. So why do it? Is it just a sound thing or are there otehr reasons?

Just curious.

Default sounds cool to some. it's a typical mod on evos...

and i have to admit, some of the huffing & puffing sounds coming from the engine bay sound mean at times.

Default A Bov vents into the atmosphere and a DV back into the Intake

Race cars running inmense amount of boost and unfiltered turbo chargers ran open BOV's for years, my guess is that somewhere down the line some manufacturer decided that there would be a market for bov's to replace stock DV's. IMHO a BOV is anoying when driving around town specially when your running high boost, not to mention the engine idle problem and lack of throttle response that a car equiped with a mass airflow meter will experience unless extensive tunning is put in place to compensate. HKS makes an engine stabiliser for mitsubishi nissan etc. It solves this problem on those cars but have not seen anything like that for 1.8t's

Thanks... I understood what they do, just not what the advantage would be.
