Until My TT Roadster Arrives, Guess The S2000 Will Have To Do...(more)
I'm first on the list at my Audi dealer for the TT Roadster, but since that car's not coming in for such a long, long time from now, I went out and bought an S2000 yesterday to hold me over until the big day arrives.
A few initial observations on the S2000 (after only 69 miles of driving):
1) Bought a Red/Black S2000 - The interior is nowhere as nice as the TT. Kind of plain, especially in black. Would look much nicer in the red on the S2000 (but not available on a red car) . Does have similar aluminum type pedals as the TT.
2) Hard to get in and out of the car - much worse than on the TT.
3) Real nice polished aluminum wheels - I personally like them better than the TT's wheels.
4) Sweet engine, but pretty anemic at low revs. Unlike the TT, this car has absolutely NO power at low revs. A little old lady in her Buick LeSabre will kill you off the line every time (Unless you rev to 8000 and dump the clutch, at which point the S2000 will go to 60 in about 5 1/2 seconds). Peak HP is at 8300 rpm (it redlines at 9000). The TT has a MUCH more useful engine about town, around 1500-4000 rpm, whereas the S2000 doesn't even come on until much higher . The TT is a far better choice as an everyday driver, whereas the S2000 might be a more fun high revving "toy".Since I'm still in the break-in period, I'm not planning on going over 5500 (like the owner's manual says) for the first 1000 miles.
That said, the S2000 is one heck of a car for the money - beating the much more expensive Boxster, the M Roadster and the SLK in all tests done so far pitting the 4 against one another.
Still can't wait for my TT Roadster though - the S2000 will be sold when it comes in.

Congrats. It sounds like a great car (not a TT, but a great car). How were you able to just walk in a pick one up? I thought there was some serious price gouging ($4000 to $10,000) over MSRP.

Re: Paid $2000 Over...
A friend of mine has deposits down at 3 or 4 Honda dealerships to buy their first car at MSRP. He put these down nearly a year ago, and boy are those dealers kicking themselves now. He sold me one of the cars at MSRP + $2000. He sold one to a dealer at MSRP + $3500.
Will probably be able to sell it next spring and lose little (if any) money when my TT Roadster arrives. At least, that's what I hope happens!
