Default V1 mounting question

I posted this earlier, as a response to my own
post, but I don't think many saw it.

I'm wondering about where to mount the main V1
unit. I've got it now about the same level as
the rearview mirror on the front windshield
with just the rear-facing radar antenna peeking
out. This provides for a fairly stealthy location,
but means rear-facing laser is blocked by the
mirror. To get that out in the open would basically
mean moving the whole thing from behind the
mirror and so much for "stealth".

I figured losing rear-facing laser (if it's detected,
it's probably to late already) for a more
subtle installation was a worthy compromise.

What is the forum view on this?

Thanks
Scot

Default Block the rear sensor and you reduce the direction-finding ability...

that the V1 is known for. I posted a bunch of info about my install a few days back... I think it may have been in response to your original request. Should I repost?

Default Same type questions on a 8500. I live in a state where

you cannot have radar detectors, so you are forced to conceal them and only turn them on when out of state, yea :-) Anyway I was thinking of taking apart my dash and installing the 8500 in the hump above the instrument cluster. Has anyone removed their instrument cluster? Are the steps, remove the lower dash. This gives access to the two instrument cluster screws. Then remove these two screws? Anyone that has experience doing this would be a help. Thx

Default I have mine installed as 1T42T described. No problems with directionality

If I remember correctly, laser doesn't have any directionality, so it doesn't matter. I have a feeling that the laser sensor will still pick up rear-facing laser enough though it may not be 100% in the open.

Default Yeah, I saw your post, but ...

I think it was in response to someone else's
question actually (is this V1 season?). So,
I've got it mounted now so the radar antenna has
a clear shot out the back, but since the laser
sensor is towards the left end of the unit, it
is blocked by the mirror. This should still give
me front laser detection, and all-direction radar
detection, losing only rear laser detection.
The alternative was a mounting position almost
entirely UNhidden by the rearview mirror. It looks
like your post showed it mounted in a similar
position to mine. Is your rearward laser sensor
actually clear of the rearview?

Thanks!

Default Hmm, I don't see how you could detect rear laser ...

with a blocked sensor. It's just a beam of IR light
which will get blocked by solid objects (or reflected,
as the case may be).

But I take it we arrived at the same mounting
compromise?

Thanks!

Default

You could always install a little periscope mirror to deflect light to the sensor!? ;-)
