V6 vs. I4

V6 vs. I4
After much delay, and purchasing a completely different car, I have decided to purchase a TT in September.
Here is the big question:
Should I spend more money on the V6, or get a late model I-4 and modify it?
I really want a manual, but I really like the way the six sounds. I am also a bit frustrated by the lack of performance modification available for the six.
However, without crazy custom work, what is an attainable power figure in the United States. If I could get to around 330bhp, and get a good engine sound (read: suggest a good exhaust please), then I may look that direction.

I wish I'd bought a V6 or a 180. 225 Quattro is just never gonna get anywhere.
I've got a 225 with Forge Hiflow on APR93 with TTDA,BAMM,Boostmachine,4bar FPR....in reality its all just pissin into the wind for a couple of scrawny little horses...And top braggin rights on this forum.
I second the recommendation for consulting HPA or TJM motorsports, or Stratmosphere(for the OCT kit)IF (big IF)you've got the bucks and can justify squandering them on something you'll probably have no real/legal use for. You're looking at at least $15K on top of the price of the car.
So IF the TT is what you really gotta have then cough up the big bucks or live with it the way it is. Which BTW is starting to seem kinda slow and stupid (to me at least) compared to more "modern" designs.
Flame me...I wish I was wrong.

Get a Porsche.
If you are willing to drop serious cash, and you really want speed, get a Porsche.
I like the TT because it's faster than most things on the road, and looks better than most things on the road.
There are things that are faster. There are things that are better looking. The combination of the two is very rare, and very expensive.

Got setup very similar to yours....LOVE IT. Can hardly call it "pissing into the wind"
For $1000 on top of 225TT price...you get pretty close to 300hp (IMHO). My car is now crazy fun to drive and I literaly didn't feel that bad getting from 911TT into my car (to my surprice). Even the owner of that 911TT commented how nice my car drove.
I was never planning of blowing tons of cash into my car and I am extremely happy with the results I've achived with minimal investment (most of which I an easily recoupe when I sell the car).
Not sure how getting a V6 or a 180 would have been a better choice. V6 required a ton of money to start developing decent HP and 180 with stage 3 is pretty close to what a nicely modified 225 pulls.
....but to eash his own.
