Default Is VAG-Com the only choice?

In addition to our VW and Audi, I need to maintain a Dodge Ram 1500, Ford Escape, and Volvo XC90. Since it appears that vag-com won't work on all of those makes, I'm considering an Actron scanner.

Will a generic scanner like Actron be able to activate the ABS for a brake fluid change on the '08 Passat or '03 TT? How much less functionality will I really be getting compared to VAG-Com?

Danke.

Default VAG-COM should allow you to use it as a normal OBDII scanner as well

I have used it on my Mercedes SUV as such. Honestly I would stick with VAG-COM if you are going to have an Audi or VW, incredibly useful- well beyond a normal scanner

Default "Should"...

Apparently Ford is a big exception, as it does not work on my F-150 : (

Yeah, I'm trying to avoid having to buy two devices: one for VAG, and another for everything else. For instance, will VAG-Com clear codes on my wife's XC90? On the other hand if I need to go with the Arcon, will that thing pump the ABS on a Passat or TT?

Default You really don't need to pump the ABS for a fluid flush. There is only about a table

spoon of fluid in the pump reservoirs.

Default From the Ross Tech online manual

"Generic OBD-II functionality is "Supported" only on VW, Audi, Seat, and Skoda cars. It will likely work on many other brands of cars. We'd be happy to receive feedback as to what other brands and models of cars it does and does not work on, however, we do not feel obligated to make it work on other manufacturer's cars."

Default Yeah, but I can't get into the more advanced functions like a Audi or VW

Basically only the "Engine" group... which sucks because I have issues in my ESP group- have to take it to the dealer for that
