Default Is the Vag-Com still top gun?

Got a friend who is getting into maintenance and tuning on his VWs ( just bought a turbo Passat, has a Jetta, etc.) and asked me what is the best tool, Ross-Tech Vag-Com? OR... now that there are competitors out there that claim to be better and cheaper is Vag-Com still the best analyzer for the amateur who wants to service modern VW/Audi cars? What would you tell him to buy?

Ross Tech is the source for Vag-Com and Vag-Com is still king, AFAIK

Default agreed...but for those that want to do quick and simple tasks...the VAD is equally as good

for that. plus, you don't need to bring a laptop no matter how tiny to do the job...a palm works great.
