Default Valentine 1 installation questions

Given my 01 TTQC is so low, I want to mount the V1 as high as possible, not down on the dash as is desecribed in earlier posts. Right now, I have it on the passenger visor with the coiled cord which is going to drive me postal. It looks like the best place to hardwire the V1 would be through the interior lights/switch above the rearview mirror. Is there some existing source of breakered and switched 12V that I can safely piggyback on?

The next step will be to route the remote unit somewhere easy to reach. What the best way to route the cord from the interior light unit to the dash, maybe near or on the cigarette tray door?

TIA

Default Re: Valentine 1 installation questions

I have my Valantine 1 positioned as follows (01 Lowered 225 Roadster)

Main unit - using suction cups on windshield slightly behind the rear view mirror

Remote unit - Hardwired into fuse panel and remote display is located in center of the car by the cubby hole which holds the fuel & trunk switches.

Default OK, but the real question is...

How have you got it wired?

Default You can hardwire it into...

the overhead reading lights. There are 4 wires, just use a voltmeter and find out which one is power and which one is ground.

I don't remember the wire colors I used when I did mine, but it should not be hard to figure out. Do a search or look in faq, there are directions on how to hardwire a V1 (I am not sure if faq is gonna be for TT though). The power supplied to V1 is gonna be on even after you shut off the engine, but it will be turned off when you lock your doors (I think there is a timer that shuts off power to the lights)

Be carefull taking the plastic cover off the lights, the plastic pins break very easy.

Default Get Jeff Bipes to do it for you! He did mine last year at TT-East.

Went to the fuse area -- that's about all I know. Made sure it was wired so when engine is shut off, unit shuts off too.

He probably has directions -- try a search.

Default hardwire under the dash...

The positive switched power is the block on the far left, the ground is the brown star-like block:

Yup. Did a search and found some elaborate directions for accessing the back of the fuse area. More than I want to tackle on my own. Who is Jeff Bipes when he is here and what does he charge (in either $ or sixpacks) to prevent me from committing mass murder (and the resulting bad publicity for TTers everywhere) because this cord is quickly driving me mad?
