What a difference $719 makes...
Well, my 2001 225 QC just turned over 31,600 miles at 2 1/2 years of age and I just put on my 3rd set of tires.
The OEM Bridgestone RE030 got a little over 17,000 miles and were replaced by a set of Bridgestone S03 pole positions. The S03s gave up the ghost after a little over 14,000 miles. The S03s sure did howl the last 750-1000 miles.
If only I had a pit that I could pull into.
Anyway, I just purchased my second set of S03s for $156.00 each from tirerack.com. They shipped the entire set to my local Audi dealer (Boardwalk Audi @ Plano, TX) for a whopping $30--UPS ground. Not each...$30 for all 4 tires and to my suprise, the tires arrived at the dealer the next day. My dealer worked me in and mounted and balanced the set for $65.00. Thanks Tony!
This is e-commerce the way it is supposed to be.
My local B-stone dealer wanted $1050 to install 4 S03s which includes $108 for road hazard. Even without the road hazard protection, I still came out over $200 ahead by buying on-line.
The biggest suprise was paying for UPS Ground and having the tires arrive at the dealer the next day. I guess everything moves at warp speed around Christmas time!
