Default What happens when brake pads fade? (PICS)

I have to show you instead of telling you:

<img src="http://www.straightfocus.com/tt/b1.jpg">

In this pic, the top pad is obviously the inside, and I think it is time for new brakes!

Thats right, I bent the pad, literally went right through the piston of the caliper and bent the pad, and pushed all the way through the pad too!

<img src="http://www.straightfocus.com/tt/b2.jpg">

Well, I have to say that is it for that caliper, totally shot without question.
I was going to get another caliper, but I want a BBK anyway so there is no sense in buying a stock caliper now.

Ouch! (You're very lucky you could stop that one last time.)

Default No doubt - I actually nursed it home almost 200 miles

just like that, the whole time my parking brake light was blinking and beeping, very annoying!

Was this after a track event? Or normal wear and tear?

Default Sorry, should have mentioned I was @ Gingerman all day

And toward the end of the day, I was feeling really great until my pedal hit the floor, at that point I knew that Gingerman Raceway in South Haven Michigan had another victim, it was me and my TT - but the good thing is that I wanted a BBK anyway, this was just another step toward that goal.

Default Wow - Lot's of lessons learned. Glad you got home safely....

Lessons:
- New pads for all track events if running stock calipers and rotors.
- Aftermarket aggressive pads can overheat rotors and warp them.
- Gingerman is alot tougher on pads than one would think.
- Work on driving without brakes - Lost my brakes at Gingerman once and then had to learn how to drive much better and use brakes alot less.
- GET BBK - Best go fast money to spend on a car. Better than a chip.

Default YES - Lot's of lessons learned.

Thanks a ton John, I will certainly take your advice regarding a BBK, I am not even trying to salvage these brake, looks like Brembo is in my future!
