Default What would cause my strut to be loose?? >>>

I got new tires today, and was supposed to get an alignment. They couldn't align it because the driver side strut moves...

With the car in the air, the mechanic pushed on the tire and the top strut bushing moved around in the pocket it sits in. So that when the car is lowered, the tire almost angles in a bit = no alignment would hold.

The passenger was tight - and the balljoints/hubs/everything else checked out fine.

The bushings and bearings are very new, and installed properly...Could it just be that the strut nut is loose??

I want to get it fixed and aligned asap, but it's too cold out the try a bunch of hit and miss stuff.

TIA!

Default Well>>>

1. Maybe it was not installed properly after all.
2. Maybe improper installation made the bushing wear out prematurely.
3. Maybe it needs to be re-installed with a new bushing and a nut torqued to correct specs.

Default I would disassemble that strut >>>

as if it was not assembled properly the assembly could be loose.

But, I would start with the top nut which should be easy to tighten with the car on the ground. And avoid using an impact gun, if possible ...

Default Turned the top nut another 1/2 turn or so>>

And jacked up the wheel...The strut moves, but that bushing doesn't move at all - We'll see what they say when it's on the rack tomorrow...hope that's the fix - concrete is cold right now!
