Default Where to get some of the OEM rubber material used on our dashes...

I need to cover a fiberglass/bondo LCD housing that will be replacing my center 2 vents. I am going to be building the housing out of fiberglass and bondo and want to cover the whole thing with the OEM rubber, or at a bare minumum copy the OEM texture of the rubber over.

Any other thoughts on what to cover it with, or paint it with?

Hm... in a worst case scenario, maybe use the similar leather to your seats? Dunno...

Default Hey Tom, if you're refering to the dash material itself >>

I called Audi directly asking this. The word from Germany is that it is regular PC plastic - as for copying the pattern, I was told by a local mufacturer that it can be done if you have a sample.

why do I know this you ask? maybe not... but if you're curious, email me

Default You'd have to send me pics...

But your best bet is alcantara.... or leather. Replacing the center 2 vents?

Do I smell carputer?

Default yeah, had a carputer in the car for a couple years now

Just got a new touch VGA screen and want to make it more "OEM" looking. Alcantara would be hot, but that is not real OEM. My shift boot is Alcantara though so it could match.

I am pulling the center vents and using that space to make a fiberglass mold that will hold secure the screen, but still make it removable if need be.

Computer is housed where the rear seats were, along with my MTX amps and cap. Box is about the size of a standard interal IDE drive, actually a little smaller. Full P3 933 with 256MB RAM, 60GB hard drive, DVD/CD-RW, yada yada yada.

Default Very cool...

We had an intern when I used to work for SSB whose father was the CIO of Merck. The kid worked out an entire computer controlled turbo system, sound system, etc.. into his car (old body pathfinder) with touchscreens and all (this was like 1998-9 maybe). Built the whole thing with boards taken out of discarded mainframes. Pretty cool deal.

Send me some pics. As far as the alcantara... it is factory.. since Quattro GMBH allows you to get almost anything in the car alcantara. Everything behind my front seats pretty much is covered in it now.

Now if you want "trick" I've got a few ideas (from thinking about screen integration in my car).. but not for the forums.
