You know, if they *tried*, I don't think they could've come up with a poorer design...
Plastic impeller pushed onto a knurled shaft, heat stress is probably the culprit here.
It was spinning on the shaft at high speed, creating the temp rise.
It was even with the water flow at low speeds, resulting in normal temps.

Unfortunately, the new pump is the same design.
Tech has been working on it since 6:30 this morning, and is about half way through removing all the other components.
Not sure yet if the car will be done today.
