Default You know, if they *tried*, I don't think they could've come up with a poorer design...

Plastic impeller pushed onto a knurled shaft, heat stress is probably the culprit here.
It was spinning on the shaft at high speed, creating the temp rise.
It was even with the water flow at low speeds, resulting in normal temps.

Unfortunately, the new pump is the same design.

Tech has been working on it since 6:30 this morning, and is about half way through removing all the other components.

Not sure yet if the car will be done today.

You'd think Audi would do better as this is a critical part.

Default Thats why they only go 50K on powertrain.

Same quality as the belt tensioner.

Default The impeller is molded on the knurled bushing. Maybe the bearing has gone bad...

which in turn might create enough heat for the metal parts to expand and crack the impeller.
