I guess it depends on whats your defination for "sports car"
but from the spec, I will just call it a sporty car.
Don't get me wrong, this car is a beauty but the performance is just ok, nothing impressive.

Read article...author is very clear with multiple examples including his "Atari" car analogy
Surely this is his PoV. Like almost all of us though, he wants the awd/2.0L option ... "If Audi made a 6-speed manual version of the 2.0 T with all-wheel drive, it would unquestionably be my favorite."

Interesting. I thought this was to be a negative review....
.... but it seems to me that the mag actually really took to the car.
A do agree that the current TT drivetrain options fall short as well.
Audi better offer a 2.0T quattro for 2009.

Re: AUTOMOBILE says Mk2 ain't a sports car...
These auto journalists are so full of themselves and so full of chit! I am glad the TT isn't a hard-core sportcar( although the typical buyer might disagree). It has more refinement and overall drivability than its so called competitors.Find me another aluminum space frame, 250 horse, DSG, magnetic suspension car engineered as well as an Audi and built to similar quality levels for under $50K.
And, Audi calls the 3.2 0-60 to be 5.3 seconds versus 2.0 at 6.1 seconds. This clown reports that the 2.0 is quicker? And that the 3.2 only got 13 MPG? He must been towing a motor home.
