You complain and complain how the Mk2 is a design failure... As a designer I tend to ignore people that complain about design that can't support their reasoning or provide a solution. So instead of complaining tell me how it should have been in your eyes instead!

Funny thing is..
I'm replacing my silver 03 225 with a 08 3.2 next week of the same color. Want to make a bet many people won't even notice I purchased a new car. While I prefer the MK2's more contemporary look, both cars share many features which state "I am a TT."

preserved roofline, cleaner lines, removal of korean front end
this is still not a great picture, BUT the devil is in the details, and the detail in the rear shot of this is pretty damn good.
seeing this picture makes me wanna drive it...seeing the MK2 doesn't....

I think you are wrong...
yesterday even though it was pouring rain, I took my new 3.2 Mk2 out and I lost count on how many heads I turned driving through downtown. I even had a man in his 70's give thumbs up as he was crossing the street at a cross walk in front of me. Most people had to look at the front Audi badge to figure out what this car was, which tells me something... IT'S UNIQUE enough.. maybe not as unique as the Mk1 but still unique. When I parked it, I got bombarded by questions and praises...
Frankly, I don't care what people think, I love it and that's what counts. Your car should fit your personality and this one does for me. Yes, the Mk1 was a pretty cool design like no other when it came out but eh... Audi tried to combine the old look with the dramatic new lines of all their other models. I don't think they are trying to target the "masses". Different design team, different looking car... plain and simple.
I could have bought a Porsche but why? That's so predictable... Audi is a classy brand and for me the TT does not scream out "super car", which is fine with me. A TT will impress Julianne Moore, which is my type of women, I'm not trying to impress Pamela Anderson (sorry guys), that's the Porsche guy...
A had a classic Range Rover in the 90's and when they changed the body style in 1996, I was really upset because it was the end of a real classy 4x4 with tones of cool history and I have never bought another but I did purchase a Discovery but again I hated the LR2. That's life and I'm now looking for an old Range Rover again in the classic body style.
For all you guys who love the Mk1, keep it and enjoy it but don't bash the new Mk2. You don't like it, it's ok... give it a chance, take the 3.2 out and you will be impressed.
I think perhaps if Audi had not introduced the R8, some of you may be thinking differently about the Mk2? The R8 is bloody awesome and it made me think twice about the TT.
The official launch in Canada for the TT is May 15th so I cannot take delivery until then but I am the first 3.2 owner in Western Canada... bloody awesome... I'll post cool pics later this week. Ciao for now...
Everso... don't be so harsh man, your Mk1 is still one of the all time coolest cars in my books.
PS. any spelling mistakes... blame it on English being my second language...LOL

Making my first trek to Victoria in a few weeks. Have never been, quite looking forward to it. Have only heard great things about the city. Many people liken it to my hometown - Halifax - so it must be good
Congrats on the new car, BTW. I think all this debate over 'better' is goofy as hell. It's a different car, great in it's own right. I've sat in one at the car show, and felt right at home, but MAN the new seats are better!! I'm just beginning car-shopping, but new TT isn't on my list - need something bigger. Going to keep the old one around, though. . .
