Hard Wiring of Radar Detector
I've been using battery operated Escort Solo's for maybe 10 years, but have had some issues with the most recent version.....will switch back to powered detectors....probably the Redline (have used Escort stuff since at least mid-1980's).
Many years ago, I used to hard wire the detector to the fuse box, ....hide the cable from front of window in the seam between window and top of dash....down behind dash to fuse box. But, that was before the fuse boxes were located inside the engine compartment with a fire wall between. The fuse boxes on my old cars were often located inside the passenger compartment.
Couple questions out there for anyone who has done this already on a TT (mine is an '08):
1. Is there an easy way to get into engine compartment with hard wire?
2. If so, where is the hole, and is there a specific fuse I should connect to?
3. If not....or if so.....is it easier to clip onto an existing wire under the dash for power?....and if so, which one?

Hardwired my wife's TTS roadster and just did my new Q5 for V1. Pretty easy to fish along windshield and down A pillar on driver's side right to the fuse panel. Used 5A fuse for ESC module which is switched with ignition.
