Default Has anyone try upgrading stereo on a non-bose system?

The sound is pretty crappy in my car compared to my friends A4 with bose, and I'd like to replace the factory speakers with something higher quality. Is this feasible?

I am Having a place near me install a rockford fosgate 3sixty.1 so that they can also throw a 5 channel amp in with a 13" JL slim sub in the trunk of my roadster...I will see how that sounds before upgrading all of the speakers ...I will probably love it tho...I just wanted a little punch in the base. The Rockford allows you to use your existing factory HU which is what I wanted...I like the HU and have the nav system so didn't really need to change it.
