Soft top won’t go down

Hi I have just bout an 07 tt convertible but the roof does not work. When you press the button it comes up in the dash saying soft top cannot be used. I have scanned the car and got code 01997 cabrio top locking motor/v223 open circuit. Is there anything common to look for with this code?? And where is the locking motor located?

Most Mk 2 folks have issues with the flap motor sensors. I've never seen your code discussed on any of the Mk 2 forums I've been following for the past 5 years

Do you know anyone with a VDCS, Ross-Tech programing device,? If so try running the top re-initialize and see what happens. The top lock motor Is in under the plug on the top front. Have you tried to manually put the top up and down using the tools in the trunk. If not try it.
