Default VTDA on the 3.2....>>>

Hi Guys! I don't get over here to the MK2 forum very often as most of my Business is MK1 specific. However, i've recently come up with a VTDA fitment for the MK 5 R32 that is getting great reviews. I suspect, but haven't verified, that the MK 2 TT engine bay is similar if not identical. Looking for a few pics to verify if anyone out there has some. I also would consider working with a Guinea pig at a good discount, to fit one and photograph it... I've prototyped a 2.0 version using the stock engine cover, but convoluted flow through the cover has basically ruled this out as a solution. Sorry on that. Anyway, here's a few R32 pics. Let me know what you think!

Thanks,

Steve

Default Steve . . . please come hang out over here more often!

And if you happen to develop some nice products for our cars in the process that'd be a bonus!

Yes, I'd be the test subject but I want to see dyno figures first.

Default I hope to have some..>>

From a couple of Australian guys who have fitted this, but honestly I don't play the Dyno game. I'm more about temperature control, driveability under the curve, throttle response, sound, etc. Most intakes only return 5-8 HP, and G/Sec flow chart indicate this is reasonable.
There are 350 of these out now, all over the world...Mostly word of mouth.

here are some impressions, along with flow and temp charts etc on the R32 application:

Impressions from downunder.......

Default The issue I can see with this intake is that it is directly drawing hot engine bay air.

The DSG tranny gets quite hot, and there are several coolant lines running in that region. The air inlet that is kept directs the air down below, not at the intake.

A 3.2 A3 owner did some testing and showed losses with this intake when compared to the factory intake with a 20k old filter.

I'd also be interested in IAT data from that user.

IIRC HPA recommends cutting the OEM airbox (there's a divider that separates 1/3rd of the filter) and adding an additional air inlet from the bottom of the box.

Perhaps some heatshielding as well as air ducting would make the VTDA more effective.

No one expects 10 WHP from this thing...but they do wanna know it wont reduce HP as crew219 states.

Default Temp tests...>>

On 1.8's show good results, and those turbo's run pretty hot.... With the front venting on the TT/R32 I suspect temps come down pretty quickly as that area is bathed in ambient air once the car is moving. Heat soak recovery time is important and the VTDA seems to do that due to the insulation.
I'd be a little hesitant to rely on the "BuTT dyno" calculations as gospel.

Check out some datalogging temp tests here....
