Default can't install vag-com using USB interface adapter

i purchased a USB vag-com interface from ebay, similar to this one:

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/USB-KKL-Vag-Com-Cable-Interface-VW-Audi-Scanner-VAG-COM_W0QQitemZ280172843862QQihZ018QQcategoryZ43989Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem">eBay vag-com link</a>

the guy sent me the USB interface (labeled OBDII) and a CD with ver.409.1 plus his own USB drivers

the vag-com program installs, but it won't recognize the interface... it's trying to install on COM2 on my laptop (windowsME) and on COM3 on my desktop (windowsXP).... it's using sometype of USB-to-Serial setup

when i tried to install it on the laptop it was looking for a driver called "ftcomms.vxd", which was not in the vag-com directory nor the provide CD-ROM... so i downloaded the darn driver.... seems to install fine, but it still won't work

when i plug in the USB inferface the laptop would freeze for a while and becomes quite sluggish (probably because i only have 128megs ram on the darn thing... older dell laptop)

i tried to uninstall the vag-com software but no luck other than deleting the install directory

anyone know why i can't get this USB interface recognized??? do i need to use a different version of vag-com with this USB cable/interface??<ul><li><a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/USB-KKL-Vag-Com-Cable-Interface-VW-Audi-Scanner-VAG-COM_W0QQitemZ280172843862QQihZ018QQcategoryZ43989Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem">vag-com link on ebay</a></li></ul>

Default probably be best to contact your hardware vendor

since there typically aren't any issues like you describe with Ross-Tech hardware/software
