Default Measuring Block 90 - AHA engine ('98 A4 V6 30V)

I have two very weird things going on with my readings in this block (camshaft position & adjustment).

First, while my normal positions are 0 on both banks, they do intermittently jump to -3 or +3 and then fall back to 0. While those values are still within spec., that is really weird, isn't it? What could I have checked to figure that one out?

Second, camshaft adjustment is never activated, even when driving in 2nd gear at 4000+ RPM. It just never changes to ON. While the car seems to be running fine, that doesn't seem right, does it? What could I have checked to figure that one out?

As always, thanks for your thoughts...

Default UPDATE: Must use WOT to activate camshaft adjustment

Here is a WOT to the redline test of my 6-cyl. car with measuring blocks open on the camshaft positions and misfire counting on bank 1 (bank 2 can be implied to have had no misfires). The test resulted in a flashing CEL and 5 fault codes thrown.

Measuring blocks

Group B: '014 (Total misfire counter)
Group C: '015 (Bank 1 misfire counters)

The spec. for camshaft positions is -3 to +6 in normal mode, and 16 to 25 in shifted mode (adjustment active). On Bank 1, I got -12 and -21 when adjustment was active (completely off spec.), which obviously totally baffled the computer and caused it to fault the camshaft position sensor itself! (though I never understood why the G40 camshaft position sensor 1 is mounted onto the back of bank 2) On Bank 2, the only questionable thing about the results is the initial position at 14degrees, which is too low (<16) for when camshaft adjustment is active.

What do you folks make of this? Did bank 1 just totally lose compression once adjustment was active. How could it have adjusted the wrong direction like this? What possibly could be wrong with my engine's setup?
