Default

Make sure you keep the pedal to the floor from 2500 RPM to redline...

Default Not easy to do with a 6cyl. engine --- you need to go 70mph in 2nd gear!

However, I do notice that above 6800 RPM while doing my best to be aggressive on the throttle and still drive safely. I did get 133 g/s using my assumed bad MAF, which is higher than I've seen before on this MAF, but still below the expected 155 of so. Mixed results again!

BTW My knock sensors in group 20 go from all 0's at 4680 RPM's to all 12's from 4800 thru 7000 at cut-off. After cut-off they all return to 0's. Could too much timing be responsible for a too rich condition?

Default

You should have a boost leak on the intake system. Check the hoses between turbo and throttle body.

Default Find some lonely highway stretch you can do it in 3rd. No WOT = bad readings.

...according to the FAQ. It's only for a few seconds anyway - you can upshift and brake down to 10 over the speed limit once you've reached redline. Make sure your A/C is off - you'll blow it up, but maybe not right away.

I'm not sure about your knock sensors - make sure you post that in your other thread.

Default I have checked all the hoses, but I have a suspicion that my SMIC has a crack in the plastic tank

on top - it's a little oily there and it's not around the TB hose connection, more on the other side. However, the PS reservior is right above it so I guess I should take a look at that too.

Default This procedure should be documented in the FAQ, ex: I didnt know about the A/C

Is this why the instrument cluster briefly rings an alarm (with an icon on the pixelated display which I cannot recognize) after the gear is returned to DRIVE after the run ? It has scared me everytime.

BTW - What does WOT stand for?

Default The A/C is just my opinion. Some guys withe the big turbos seem to

blow A/C compressors now & then, and my guess is that it's because they run into high RPM's so often.

What is this icon? Look in your owner's manual to see if you can identify it. I choose a gear rather than putting the car into neutral after the redline run, but I have no basis for this behavior.

WOT=wide open throttle (pedal to the metal)

Default It is good advice, I definitely will include it when I document this routine for everyone

The icon only appears (with an alarm sound ringing) for 3 seconds while I'm driving, what I recall is that it looks like a heap of garbage pixels (like a CPU crash). It only happens when I make the final move from 4 to D after this redline test. I'm leaving it in gear 4 next time until the car comes to a stop, then I'll try to photo it if it comes up moving into DRIVE while stationary. The alarm is the kind of thing you'd expect to hear if you car is overheating or something serious like that is on the cluster display, but all guages are normal and there are no fault codes in the computer caused by it.

Default Your new method sounds safer for the transmission & torque converter.

I didn't realize you had an automatic 'til now.
