Default Needing O2 Sensor Edumencation -- Chicago A6 4.2 50v V8 - Any assistance appreciated . . .

17521 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor; B1 S1: Internal Resistance too High
P1113 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
16825 - EVAP Emission Control Sys: Incorrect Flow
P0441 - 35-00 - -
17539 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor; B2 S1: Internal Resistance too High
P1131 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

I get the above codes about every 2.5 to 3 days. (these are also the only dtc's I throw..)

1. What exactly does it say about my 02 sensors?

2. Will this condition do anything to my fuel economy?

3.Will the suggestion mentioned in this thread be of any assistance: https://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng53.shtml

Thanks again for the help guys - you are invaluable!

Default Re: The intermittent status on both sensors suggest ...

to me that you have a connection problem more likely than you have failing sensors.

In the sensors, there is a heating element that gets the sensor up to normal operating temperature sooner than letting the exhaust raise the temp. The error code is telling you that this heater element has too high a resistance. If a connection breaks, the resistance becomes the resistance of air which is quite high - air is a pretty good insulator and doesn't carry electricity easily. So, I'd be looking for loose connections mostly owing to the intermittent nature of the fault.

Will this effect your fuel economy? It could. The S1 sensors are the ones that monitor the oxygen content of the exhaust for fuel trim calculations.

As to the thread: the post CAT sensors are labeled B1S2 or B2S2. Clearly, your problem is the Pre-CAT S1 sensors.

Default Thanks Bruce, where are the S1 sensor connectors located -- at the firewall?

What do you suggest is the best course for checking connections sites once I find them?

I am not sure where they are located. They are in front of the CAT somewhere.

As to checking the connections, I would simply inspect the wiring, unplug connectors and replug them. If that doesn't solve the problem, then you will need a meter or a scope to test further.

May I suggest you refer to a repair manual such as the one produced by Bentley? They do offer a 3 day on line subscription for about $30.

Default Cleaned all connections, reseated, DTC came back. I measured Ohm resistance and got 9.5 on both S1

sensors, I'm a bit stumped.

The DTC will throw about every 3 days.

Thanks much for the help Bruce.

I'm not sure where to go from here.
