OBD II functionality....
I think I already know that someone is going to just give a default reply of "Buy a new cable!", but I think it would be far more helpful to myself and possibly others if everyone could avoid a knee-jerk response like that.
I noticed that the newer version of VAG-COM has generic OBD II capabilities in it, where the 311.2 version that I'm stuck using only has a test where it says that my cable works and should work with other software.
Well, does anyone know what that other software would be? I've been searching for a few hours today, and all the software I can find seems to want a cable on a different spec. My cable is a 3rd party off Ebay, but does claim to have dual K lines. It does not, however, work with the 409 version of VAG-COM or newer. It has been working fine with the older software to do some tweaks I wanted, so I don't feel I've wasted the money, but I do want to get the most out of it. And I'd love to kill some fault codes on my dad's '97 BMW.
That being said, what other software is out there that would make use of my cable just for OBD II support? It seems like if Ross-tech would make that module a plugin like VAG-SCOPE, my cable would support it, or at least the test functions in the 311.2 version clearly state that.
Let me know if any of you have some ideas.

It won't let you test before you buy.
It will not find your interface until you register it. That's I put the OBD-II Test button in VAG-COM way back when, so people could be reasonably certain it would work on a particular car before they buy it.
