shareware vs. registered 409 version

I'm trying to determine if it's worth it to get the full vag-com or just the knock-off cable and use the shareware and I have a few questions:
1. Is there a difference in functionality between a registered vs. non-registered version of the 409 software?
2. Are the extra features in the 607 software/authentic cable really useful and used that often?

This would be for a 2000 Audi TT coupe quattro. Thanks in advance.

Answers

1. Yes, there's quite a bit of stuff that's not available in the unregistered free version that the fully registered one -- even 409 -- will let you do. Registering costs $99.

What are the differences btw 409 shareware and 409 registered?

The difference is the registered version is fully functional, the unregistered version is not.

If you had the opportunity to use the v607, you would find the v409 versions much less comprehensive. If it is an issue with affordability vs frugality, the v607 will serve you best, otherwise get what you can reasonably afford. The cost compared to the features and utility of latest version software and interface hardware cables, is an incomparable value by any measure.
