Is there a way to check just for what is throwing a CEL? Or.....
do you need to just AUTOSCAN and try decide from the list of faults what would be throwing the CEL?
Im pretty new to vag com,
help is appreciated.

Save the results of the Autoscan, clear the codes and then drive for a while.
Check again when the CEL re-appears.
If you have a Bentley, it ususally tells you which codes set which lights.

Newer modules set a flag about which codes are actually triggering the MIL.
However when it comes to older cars or just in general there is not such a behavior. If in doubt scan the car and post your Auto-Scan here and we'll gladly take a look at it.
