VAG-COM or another OBD II scanner?
I'm a new owner of a 2002 Audi A6 Q. I've been lurking around this newsgroup and the VAG-COM scanner seems to be very popular. What are the pros & cons of this scanner over other OBD II scanners? I'm thinking about buying a VAG-COM but I just wanted to do my homework first to make sure I'm making the best choice. TIA for any help or advice.

VAG-COM is not another OBD II scanner
Comparing VAG-COM to an OBD II scanner is not a correct comparison. VAG-COM should be compared to the VW factory diagnostic tool.
An OBD II scanner only provides access to emissions related systems. VAG-COM provides full access to all diagnostic capable modules in model years 1990-2007 and will be ready for the 2008s as they arrive.
An OBD II scanner will not give access to airbag modules, ABS systems, Central Convenience, among others. VAG-COM will provide access to all of these.
Check out the link below to see how an OBD-II scanner failed to provide details about a car that was malfunctioning.

http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/dtc-comparison.html</a
