Thanks for your help Bullis
I have found what i think is a compatible cable and will download VAG Com and check it out when i get it.
Have a misfire on my B6 at the moment so can put it to good use straight away!
Will report back on how useful it proves to be.
Thanks again for the pointer

Or you could buy it from the company that writes the software and sponsors this forum, in which case it's actually guaranteed to work. :P

You should buy the cable from Ross Tech that way when there are problems or questions you will not be wondering if the cheap alternate failed or malfunctioned or do you have a real vehicle fault. Just my opinion and no financial connection to Ross Tech.

Makes a little more sense now
Thanks for your help everyone
I did get a cable from Ebay and used VAG Com shareware to diagnose my problem - already bought and paid for before Uwe posted.
I also didn't realise that the cable from Ross Tech is part of the system along with the software - if that makes sense.
I'm in the UK so the cost of the whole system (cable and software) is prohibitive and would have taken a while to get here.
I'm no workshop tech - just trying to save money on diagnosing probs as they happen.
The program was really good and will register and activate it so i can get as much out of it as i can.
Its a shame it isn't cheaper as i'm sure loads of people would buy it - i suppose the problem is that a cheaper version for the amateurs will also work just as well for the professionals and i guess that is what it is aimed at.
Uwe if using it this way is not allowed let me know as i dont like to take money out of peoples pockets - i run a business as well and dont like to be taken for a ride.
Please excuse the pun!
Thanks everyone for your help
