Fuel Level Sending Unit/ Long trip !
Hi gang, Just made my 1200 mile trip from DC to Minneapolis to bring the Fox home, made it no problem besides 1 little linkage issue that was solved with a nylon tie to get me home ): I must say I am totally impressed with how well the car handles and moves out! Very nice car!
My fuel gauge won't read the level in the tank. A mechanic said it was the sending unit, from what I can see it requires a whole pump replacement, is that correct? Thanks in advance !

Zip tie for the WIN!
Brian,
Good to hear that the car made it - we were hoping that you might have stopped by Carlisle.
Not sure on the fuel gauge/pump issue, but on the 1980 5k the fuel pump is external to the tank. I'll check ETKA tonight and see what the diagrams bring up, but it may be as simple as cleaning a slider on the sender, or checking the wiring between the trunk and the dash (ince the sender will be just a variable resistor).
Cheers!

Re: Zip tie for the WIN!
Steve, thanks, I appreciate it. I was very close to coming to Carlisle but I wanted plenty of time to get home since I had to be here by Sunday and wasn't used to the car. Good pick up on the little 1.6 ! I was dumbfounded by the rate of speed people drive at ! I was driving maybe 5 miles over limit and I'd say most people were at least 20 over ! Scary !

Heh....you should try that with a wobbly car dolly.....

My rig (as shown) gets a bit squirrelly around 120 km/h (~ 75 mph) - thus I tend to stay around 100-110 km/h (~ 62-68 mph). Many people drive with their heads, and tend to wander close to my rig, and often in my blind spots. I keep track of the oncoming traffic in case we hit rutted sections of the highway, since I'm dealing with 3 wheelbases and a bunch of hinge points and can often track the dolly over the line on either side (also...as shown)
On the way to Carlisle, some idiot in a Grand Am passed our convoy at what I'd estimate at 100 mph approaching a construction zone. Didn't see him coming, and could have easily strayed into his path. I guess there was a red light special on at Adult World that we didn't know about - they sell responsible adults there, don't they? ;-)
Too bad you didn't make Carlisle....but there's always next year, right?
Cheers!

No Kidding Mark!
The slow lane is brutal around there - bangbangBANGbangbangBANGBANG.....for miles on end. There was one pothole that I swear was about a foot deep and I'm sure the DKW hit it. I've got to get a car trailer - I can just imagine the beating the Junior's rear suspension is taking back there.
Cheers!
Cheers!
