I have 4 Blizzaks that "look" to be in very good shape that were on rims but the tire date on the sidewall is from nearly 10 years ago. My shop said that they could fall apart due to age and that appearence and even though stored inside the garage or basement would not matter. Is this all good advice? I am so tempted to use them this winter?

That's a tough call. Tires age very slowly when they are in storage, not exposed to UV light or large temperature swings and the elements. However, ten years might be pushing it a bit. I doubt they would "fall apart" on you but the tread compound has probably hardened enough over that decade to be less effective on ice and packed snow.

and to add to Garys inputs - if you use them and find they are not right - you risk not being able to get a good set of snows as many sizes run out quickly
