Default 225/45 or 235/45 on 17 x 7.5 for B5 A4?

I just picked up some barely used Audi B7-style split-fork 5 spokes, 17 x 7.5, ET 45 mm.

If I look at the Audi website, they come from the factory with 235/45 tires, although that is for mounting on a B7 A4.

I plan to mount these on my B5 A4. Would I be better off with a 225/45 or a 235/45 tire?

I was thinking that a 235/45 is a bit of an odd size for a B5 A4...

Thanks,

DD

Default I'd go w/ the 235/45. The extra sidewall height will protect the wheel...

plus you get a slightly wider tire, too. As for tire brands, I recommend the one in my sig (my car or wifey's car).

FYI, the sidewall on a 235/45-17 is 1.004% taller than a 225/45-17. Not a significant difference.

Actually, I was thinking of Toyo T1Rs for the tire

Would a wider tire have a danger of rubbing? I've got stock sport suspension and currently 205/55-16

Default There is a slight chance of rubbing with 235/45/17 and ET45 on a B5...

but most likely you'd be OK. Personally, I'd go with 225/45 because I don't see much advantage to running wider, especially on a stock car.

235/45's are also definitely heavier, which is a known, measurable downside.
