Default Conti ExtremeContact on B7 2.0TQ and break-in

I just bought 4 highly regarded ContiExtremeContact's but they feel mushy and lacking road feel right now. How many miles do I need to put on them before they'll show their true color?

What's the best way to break-in and at what tire pressure? Should I use the recommended 35psi throughout or go lower at say 33psi for more even break-in? Thanks!

Default imo, "break-in" amounts to a half-day of normal driving. If wet, then adjust for some slickness.

I wouldn't expect good wear on your vehicle, just a lot of grip. I'm getting away from <400 wear rating tires. I have fwd now and it's quite a relief from keeping 4 matching tires on such a tire-eating machine.

You should use about two lbs more than what the manual says.

Why is that?

Default Personal preference - I've found that 2 lbs more than mfr recommendations

give me better handling and control and feedback.

I always check my tires for wear every two to three months and have not have to adjust the pressure down.

Around 500 miles of "normal' driving for break in. (mold release lubricant needs to wear off)

Default I also do the same thing.

I think it comes down to driving style. Fast corners? You need more pressure :-)

I noticed there's half an inch of no contact on the outer shoulders at 35 psi throughout on my new tires. Is this normal?
