Could anyone tell me what the largest wheel and tire combination is for the TT(not lowered)?

Silly question alert:
I've got a pal with a 2008 Mk II TT. He had 245/40/18's all around on it. Will those fit my 2001 Mk I?
They're sitting on his shelf collecting dust and he says I can have them - I'll need spacers I would guess, but I'm wondering if the Mk II model accepts wider tires than the Mk I, Thanks.
