Default Dunlop Direzza DZ101's?

Looks like I'll be sticking with 17's on my A6 4.2, and am looking for some summer rubber. EdgeRacing is selling Dunlop Direzza DZ101's in 255 40 17 for $84 a corner as part of a sale (plus there's a $50 rebate on 4 from Dunlop thru the end of the month). I did a quick archives search, and didn't come up with much on these. Any opinions?

Default Re: Dunlop Direzza DZ101's?

Great buy. I just got some in a smaller size for an old sports car. First impressions are very positive for a small lightweight car. Soft and sticky and they look like they will also be ok in the rain. But the sidewalls are a little soft too and it feels like it needs more air pressure than other tires I've had on the same kind of car. I think the tire was designed for tuners and drifters. For an A6 with a 4.2, I think I'd get something stronger. You get what you pay for, most of the time.

Default A little Google search turned that point up too...

Some non-Audi reviews said they were pretty sticky with a softer sidewall. On a heavy car, I'm guessing most wouldn't be happy. Thanks for some real-world input.

Default Yw, for me it's the idea of suitability

There were a couple of A6/V8 owners among the tirerack reviews who were hapy with the Direzzas, though they had few miles. But an appropriate tire for your car would be the Conti 2's, a very good tire that tirerack has really good prices on. I know, a lot of people criticize them, but sometimes you have to take reviews with a grain of salt. If you want better performance, I am in love with the Michelin PS2's I have on my Jag. I feel more secure in the Jag, in the rain, with 400 hp and 400 ft/lbs of torque ready to break the rear end loose, than I do in my wife's allroad. Can't say anything about longevity, but I'm guessing it won't be a strength.
