Default A few questions for those who have 18" rims on an A4......

I'm debating between 17 and 18 inch upgrade and I am looking for feedback from those with experience.

1. How harsh is the ride compared to stock 16" wheels? Assume I'll be adding Eibach-pro kit as well.

2. do you notice a significant drop in accelleration since the rims are heavier?

3. how bad are the roads where you drive?

Thanks

Default if performance go with 17s, for show go with18s

i have heard of people loose at car shows because the minimum these days is 18" wheels? as for the ride, i have a 225/45 on 18 and the stock 16 is 215/50 and the average ride difference is not too much though make a whole lot of difference in cornering and racing.

Default well, I want performance and show...

but I don't want to impede accelleration with the heavier 18. (you've heard that whole argument about unsprung weight)...

Also, I'm worried about denting them if I nail a bad hole.

siberian:

well, first which A4 do you have? what year and what kind of stock suspension? i have a 97 A4 2.8. my first after market wheel was BBS RX 18". without the eibach springs there was way too much gap in the wheel well. they looked fine until 7mths they had stress cracks on the two front wheels. BBS didn't make that exact wheel in that color. only some similar color. so i bought AAVANTGARDE TYPE S 18" ($400/pc). looked great. i love them but two nights ago in los angeles i hit this deep pot hole. bent the crap out of one of my wheels. well AAVANTGARDE is not distributed in USA anylonger. sucks to be me.

my advice to you all depends on how much time an money you are willing to spend on something happening in the future if you hit a pot hole. personally, i'm just tired of it. too much time and too much money. i know my wheels got damaged cuz of the stiffer springs. so, if you have a later model with sport package your car should look and perform just fine with 17" and stock sport springs.

good luck. if you have anyquestions write me at LLPS7@aol.com.

Default I have a 1.8 front trak with sport... and will be adding eibach pro/bilstein setup soon..

so the ride will be pretty rough.

I'll have to take that into consideration I guess.
