Gary - I need shoes
I bent a AT Italia Riva on my 99 Passat and need to replace it. Based on the flexible 
nature of those whells I want to move on. What would you recommend? Currently running 17x8. Oh, and cheap .

We have quite a few that would fit and be durable. I'd suggest pouring over our list online. One of the wheels we've had a good history with is the Borbet Type E, a simple five spoker that we've carried for over five years now with success. Right now we're runing a bit low on the entry level priced wheels since many of them go for winter tire packages.
