The turn-in response is sharp, due to the V rated construction. But the tires are really noisy -- almost as noisy as my old studded Nokia Hak 10s. My LM22s were pretty smooth riding tires, but they sucked in the snow. I am hoping that the noisy tread design of the 3D translates to better winter performance than the LM22.

Default I have different experience with Dunlop Winter 3D

They are 18" and on my S4 while Pirelli Sottozero 17" are on the A4. They are same as quiet. May be I am going deaf ??

Hmm.. That's unexpected. Bad wheel bearing or alignment spec off?

Default Pete - any thoughts on why your experience is so bad?

something must be wrong
1. tires mounted with wrong direction.
2. Bearings (though you should have heard them with your previous tires)
3. A bad tire (maybe it is just a out of round tire)

You're an experienced old timer here. Very strange to see you post this. I've always enjoyed your inputs to these forums.

Let us know where you go with this issue.

BTW - My summer tires were making lots of noise (Dunlop SP9000s) and several riders in my car thought it was wheel bearings - but I knew differently as the noise changes when going over different surfaces - it was due to my not having the tires rebalanced soon enough)

When I put on the D3s it was amazing how quiet the car is - wish I could afford to replace the SP9000s now

Default Jeez, that's the first time anybody has called me an "old timer."

I know that you meant it in the sense that I've been on AW for many years. But as my hair starts thinning, I cannot help to interpret it differently. :-)

Glad to hear other guys' responses with the 3Ds. Just to clarify, I never said that my experience is "bad." I did not even post asking for questions on what might be wrong -- I was only stating an observation.

FWIW... all 4 tires are mounted in the correct direction. I should check tire pressures though. Both rear wheel bearings have been replaced in the last 20k miles, so that's not it. When I first heard the noise, I suspected that it might be one of my front bearings. (Wouldn't that be just great...) But I didn't get the noise with my summer wheels/tires on the car.

I did have my suspension replaced a few months ago and did not have it realigned yet. So I guess I should get on the ball and get the alignment done.

But I will reiterate what I said in my previous post. If the 3Ds are indeed a noisy tire, I am not at all offended by that. Snow tires SHOULD be noisy on dry roads, because of the larger spaces between tread blocks. So if the tires are causing the noise, then I should hope for better snow traction than my previous LM22s, which were quiet, but lousy in snow.

Maybe it's just that the Toyo T1R is a smoother riding tire than I was expecting. (Much smoother than my S03s, which is why I got rid of the S03s.) And the 3D is noisy by comparison.

Thanks again for the responses!

Default Quieter than my 17" P6 A/S set. With 16" Rial Comos. Will see at 50mph+ tomorrow.
