Need to buy winter tires, but I have a dilemna...
I've already decided that I want either the arctic alpines or blizzaks WS-50 to deal with the nasty amounts of black ice we get here.
My dilemna is, should I order them online through Tirerack, or buy them at a local dealer? If I go through, say, Discount Tires, I can have them put them on there after purchase for probably no extra charge. Even though TireRack has great prices, the shipping charges bring it pretty even. If I order online through Tirerack, I have to have them shipped to a shop and pay even more for mounting.
What's everyone else doing? Any advise for a first time buyer?
Thanks!

Wheel/Tire combo no question - Tirerack! Tires alone, your call...
From my experience guys at Tirerack do a *very* good job mounting tires and balancing wheels. They use little stick-on weights you can't see from outside.
However if you can get pretty close to a price on tires alone there is no reason not to go local.
BTW, Tirerack charges $40 - $60 for shipping.

Do you mean that Tirerack actually mounts the tires on your car for you?
The only thing that I could tell through the website was that you would have them shipped to a 'recommended installer' who would put the tires/wheel combo on for a fee. If Tirerack had actual stores then i would rather go with them.
I do like the tire/wheel combo that Tirerack offers, but like i said, local dealer's prices are very competitive, and I can have everything done on-site same day. The wheels that local dealers have are a little pricey, but when you throw shipping costs into the equation, it comes out pretty even.
Hmm, still undecided.

What I meant is if you buy wheel / tire combo ...
TireRack will mount the tires on wheels and ballance them at no extra charge. Shipping is usually $40 - $60. When you get the wheels you jack-up the car and put them on. Total extra cost $60.
If you just get the tires and want them mounted on your own wheels you will have to pay someone. In this case go with a local place if you can get a good deal.
