Need some advice on tires size,,,,I'm tire illiterate.

I have 2000 A6 2.7T. I was going to change to 235/45-17's. First question is - 235/45 or 235/40 is the 40 series alot harsher ride?
Second question - Is 18 inch rim outta the question for my car, if not, do I need to go with 40 series instead of the 45 series.Something about sizing?? Thanks in advance

To keep your overall rolling diameter you should go with the 235/45/17 or 235/40/18. I'm changing to the 235/45/17 setup when my new Audi springs arrive. I think the ride might be too harsh for me with the 235/40/17" or any 18" setup. My 2cents...

Here you go....

For the 2.7T, upsizing for the car, sizes as follows:

235/40-18 25.4" overall diameter
245/40-18 25.7

235/45-17 25.3
245/45-17 25.7

Any of these sizes can and does fit on the car, I have sold them all successfully for the car. A plus 2 (18" in this case) upgrade will be fine for the car, w/o affecting too much ride harshness, however if you are on the fence about that, then best to play it safe.
