Default opinion needed on running different size tires up front and back

I have a 99 Passat with 225/50/16 tires on the 5 spoke A4 rims. I am planning on dropping the car and I dont want the front tires to run (they are little too wide). Do you guys see any problems in running 205/55 up front and 225/50s in the back?

Default On a front wheel drive?

I'd love to hear what the vehicle dynamics engineers have to say about that idea. Narrower front tires, on a FWD, should make for pretty interesting understeer. I think their response could be summarized, however, in one word: "Don't."

Default Watch out for trees on the outside of any corner you may...

...try and take really fast. With that setup, your car will understeer like a pig, and you'll end up going straight off the road! Like DMoore said, the answer is "Don't!"

Default Re: No way!

Different size tires were developed for high speed rear wheel drive vehicles. The front tire is designed for steering and clearing the path for the rear power/torque tires. All front wheel drive vehicles keep the same sizes front to back (ie, SAAB, Volvo, Mitsubishi, ....)

Therefore...don't do it!
