Road force - what is it
I took my S6 in for various and sundry minor problems in on Friday. One of the probs was a slight vibration at 60+ so the dealer balanced the wheels on a hunter 9700. I pickedup the car after the advisor had left for the day, but the paperwork said all tires had excessive road force, ranging from 22 to 59lbs.
Can somebody explain this to me - what causes it - what is the remedy - if it is the tires, is this a warranty thing that I have to bring up with continental?
cheers

Thanks! Follow-up question - prolly for Eddie......
OK, sounds like "bounce force" most accurately describes the problem.
What causes this problem though? Is it inherently a manufacturing problem; is it caused by driving hazards (potholes, train tracks) or a manufacturing problem that is magnified by wear?
I have about 17k on the car (and tires) and there appears to be even (and minimal)wear. The alignment was checked and found to be spot-on, so I'd have to rule out alignment problems. Tire pressure has always been between 38 and 40lbs.
Bottom line - is this something I should raise with Continental (and buy a new set of tires from Eddie) or should I chalk it up to normal wear and wait until wear indicates replacement?

Eddie is now with the South Bend Police Dept.

This condition could be caused by many different situations, so it would be difficult for you to prove to continental that a defect was to blame. Most only see about 20-25K from these tires.

Ahh - thanks Gary......
...I'm not really trying to blame this on Conti - but I do expect them to step up to the plate if they are at fault.
My thoughts were that if it is, more likely than not, a manufacturing issue, then I'll bring it up to them, otherwise I'll just forget about it....
