Default Track Wheel advice needed

I'm looking to pick up a set of track wheels/tires this season. I normally run 235/45/17's (SO-3's) on Mille Miglia Spiders. I'd ideally like to stay with a 17" wheel (for cost), and I need at least 17" to clear my stoptechs.

The issue I'm having is 2-fold. First, it seems that there are very few choice in 235/45/17 R-compound tires. I'd really like to get the Khumo V700 Victoracers, but they only come in a 225 or 245 width. I really don't want a narrower tire, but am worried about the 245's not fitting (little clearence between tire and suspension now).

Secondly, I'd like to shed some wheel weight, and am considering the SSR Comps, and possibly the OZ Superleggeras. Are the SSR's strong enough to hold up to tossing a 2-ton 360HP A6 around Lime Rock or the Glen? I usually hear these wheels being used by the Miata crowd...

BTW - the car is a 2000 A6 2.7T. Any ideas or opinions are greatly appreciated!

Default Depends how much money you want to spend

It all depends how much money that you want to spend on your race set up. I would have to say that the best possible track wheels that you could by would have to be fikses. I have a set of f-10 and fm-5's that I use for autocross and track days. If you are willing to spend 900 bucks a wheel they are well worth it. Luckily I did not have to pay full price for them. I am not exactly sure what sizes the v700 come in but they are great tires if you want something to drive to and from the track on. I would imagine that 225's would be plenty wide and have enough grip for your car. 245's would be nice especially on the A6. I am not sure if they would fit but if you go to a good body shop you can have your fenders rolled. Hope this helps. Adam

Are those 225's or 245's on your car?

Default Great advice- Excellent wheel for track. (m)

The Chrono Evos have been a very popular wheel for a good inexpensive, durable, LIGHTWEIGHT track wheel as well as for street use.

We are the exclusive source for these wheels. If you are interested in them or for more info give me a call!

Archives- Chrono Evo Info

Default I have these ...

I bent one at CMP but I hit some track-out gators very hard and often. They had some brutal curbing there. Other than that, I've been happy with them. I'm running 235/40R17 Yokohama AVS Intermediates (street tire) on them. These are very cheap tires but have been discontinued. This was about a year ago. I've heard that tires age and can lose traction so these tires may not be a good solution anymore. I'll be going with the A0132R tires with the Intermediates wear out.
