Default WARNING - 18" Radons on 2.7t......DON'T FIT!!!! (more)...

The 18x8.5 AEZ Radons (32mm offset) I received yesterday for my 2001 A6 2.7t DO NOT clear the caliper, despite assurances from Jake at CWC and Sacha at Edge Racing.

The back of the spokes hit on the outermost edge of the caliper body - just barely, but enough to cause me not to mount them up today. They will require a 2mm spacer to fit properly. The spacer was not included with my order, although the lugnuts and center caps were.

I will be in touch with Jake and Sach to see who will provide (and at whose cost) the proper spacer.

Other than that, they are a very nice looking, and reasonably light (22 lbs on my bathroom scale) rim. The silver painted finish is not perfect, compared to the Fiskes I saw at the shop, but then again, they aren't $800 a pop either. They will look great on my silver A6. Pissed off that I can't be driving on them NOW, but c'est la vie. Hope to have them on next weekend....

Default Here is what is going on....

If you have a BRAND new car...in my case a 2001 S4 Avant with only 500 miles on it...then the AEZ 18X8.5" Radons, TEMPORARILY, don't fit...why? because the A6 2.7 and S4 brake pads are too thick...as soon as you wear them down slightly..everything works fine. To be honest...I really think AoA is putting slightly bigger (thicker) brake pads on the new cars.

So, here is my suggestion...just drive with your stock wheels for another 2-3 weeks...and then try again...it should work. It wouldn't hurt to drive up and down a mountain road...with some decent braking, while you are trying to slightly wear down the pads.

It is not worth it to put on 2mm spacers...trust me. I wanted to use them quickly...so I installed some H&R 5mm spacers I had...and in one trip to Laguna Seca (2 days on track) the pads were worn down just enough to fit the Radons again.

It is no big deal.

Default Thought so...I have just 1500 miles now...

and could see that the pads were the problem. I will install 2mm spacers now, and remove when pads are down far enough. As I walk to work instead of driving, car doesn't see but 500 miles a month - can't wait that long to see the new wheels on!

Besides, every time I put new pads on (granted, not often) I will need spacers for a few months....

Thanks.

Default I am surprised...

at your answer. You suggested that we wear the pads down to be able to mount the wheels. I can see it now. Next time we put new pads on, there is a good chanve that the calipers and wheels will be damaged if the tech does not pay attention.

It's just me. I don't like to force-fit stuff.

Default Forget Spacers...Shave your calipers

I would shave my calipers instead of putting spacers. I have heard of someone doing this for their S4 and 18" TE37s
