This article applies to the Audi Q5 (2009-present).

The Audi Q5 offers a beautiful driving experience to both driver and passenger. With different engine sizes from which to choose, as well as a range of new technologies, this is one vehicle that will have you considering all of your options, including which model year will best serve your driving needs. In addition, you will also want to do your research. Dealerships will go below the manufacturer's suggested retail price, if you are informed about what other buyers in your area have paid for their Audi Q5. Average discounts are said to be around $2,500 on many Audi forums.

2015 Audi Q5 vs. 2016 Audi Q5

There are a number of reasons why you might choose the 2016 Audi Q5 over its predecessor, the 2015 Audi Q5. Here are the most commonly raved about upgrades on the 2016 Audi Q5 that we think will have you saying, "What 2015 Audi Q5?"

  • When it comes to the 2016 Audi Q5, you can expect improved fuel economy thanks to an impressive modular longitudinal component system or lightweight MLB-evo platform.
  • Some Audi Q5 enthusiasts have expressed fears over a new generation coming from a new factory, hinting that performance issues could crop up later on down the line. This, however, is only a theory.

2.0 Premium vs. Premium Plus

Generally speaking, the premium plus package is a sound investment. The cost is $4,000, so you'll want to consider your budget before heading down to the dealership. Here's what your money will buy:

  • HID headlights, which come equipped with Audi LED daytime running lamps.
  • Power tailgate, which allows you to access the truck by pressing a button on your key fob.
  • Advanced Audi key, which allows you to open your doors and start your vehicle without needing to reach into your pocket to retrieve your actual key fob.
  • Heated front seats with adjustable control.
  • Sunroof offering beautiful panoramic views.
  • A sports interior option is also available at a cost of $500.

Comparisons between the Audi Q5 2.0 and the Audi Q5 3.0, as well as the Allroad 2.0

If you're thinking of going for the 2.0, then we'd say the Q5 might be a better choice over the Allroad if you are looking for a cheaper price tag (expect savings of approximately $2,000) and more room (expect to experience about two additional inches of leg room and ceiling space). Keep in mind, however, that the Allroad offers greater cargo volume. It's also worth mentioning that the Allroad does not come equipped with Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) technology.

As for the 3.0, well, it's more powerful, assuming you need that much power. Overall, the driving experience is truly exceptional. One 3.0 owner went so far as to describe his driving experience as, "Smooth as butter." Good engine-transmission mating and acceleration also make the 3.0 a top choice among Audi buyers.

Follow your regular maintenance schedule and keep your wheels clean to avoid excessive brake dust. Run your Q5 exclusively on premium fuel, and change your engine oil and filter every 7,500 miles.
